Bassam Kassab has been working at Valley Water since 2001. He started with capital projects, then moved to water supply and groundwater management. He currently manages 14 staff in the Raw Water Operations Unit and is responsible of operating 10 reservoirs in the county of Santa Clara, three pumping plants, one hydroelectric plant, and tens of miles of raw water transmission pipelines. Bassam is also an adjunct faculty at San Jose State University where he teaches two water resources courses each semester to senior and graduate civil engineering students. His research interests include steady flow in water distribution networks, hydraulic transients, deterministic and stochastic hillslope hydrology, flow of grains, as well as production and inventory management in operations research.
Bassam is a registered Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California. He holds a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and a master's degree in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering from the America University of Beirut, as well as a Master of Science degree in hydrology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). During his free time, Bassam teaches Spanish, which is his fourth language. He also writes songs and screenplays and produces independent movies.
